Customs Details of Copper Foil in March 2025: Both Exports and Imports Increased YoY and MoM [SMM Analysis]

    According to data from the General Administration of Customs, China's copper foil imports in March 2025 were approximately 8,446.98 mt, up 8.26% YoY and up 22.40% MoM. From January to March 2025, China's cumulative copper foil imports were approximately 22,265.75 mt, up 1.35% YoY.

    In March 2025, China's copper foil import value was $144.2693 million, up 10.20% YoY and up 15.16% MoM. From January to March 2025, China's cumulative copper foil import value was $392.1137 million, up 7.33% YoY.

    In March 2025, China's copper foil exports were approximately 4,886.55 mt, up 6.97% YoY and up 42.83% MoM. From January to March 2025, China's cumulative copper foil exports were approximately 12,114.75 mt, up 1.29% YoY.

    In March 2025, China's copper foil export value was $62.484 million, up 15.25% YoY and up 48.17% MoM. From January to March 2025, China's cumulative copper foil export value was $152.3692 million, up 10.93% YoY.

    In March 2025, China's copper foil trade deficit was approximately $81.79 million, down $1.31 million MoM from $83.1 million in February.

    By country, the main sources of China's copper foil (excluding copper alloy foil) imports in March 2025 were Taiwan, China (4,471.90 mt), Malaysia (853.97 mt), and Luxembourg (553.33 mt).

    The main destinations for China's copper foil (excluding copper alloy foil) exports in March 2025 were Thailand (800.28 mt), South Korea (594.28 mt), and Malaysia (500.30 mt).

    The increase in copper foil imports in March 2025 was mainly driven by the rapid development of domestic industries such as AI servers and PV, which increased the demand for high-end electronic circuit copper foil. Although mainland copper foil enterprises have made continuous breakthroughs in production technology in recent years, some products still rely on imports. The significant rebound in export orders in March was mainly due to the growth in demand from the consumer electronics industry, especially the continuous development of the electronics manufacturing industry in countries such as Thailand, which provided market space for copper foil exports.
